Managing The Queen’s Lying-In-State Queue

South Bank BID is proud to have contributed to the arrangements for managing the queue of people who passed through South Bank during the period of the Queen’s Lying-In-State.

Working together with members of South Bank Employers’ Group, the BID’s Delivery Team did an incredible job over several days and nights, and the BID Board would like to thank members of the team, including South Bank Patrol, South Bank Clean Team, and the Night-Time Marshals for all their hard work, commitment, and professionalism.

Given the route of the queue and the sheer number of people that were on South Bank for several days and night, the BID provided funding for additional Night-Time Marshals and extended the Clean Team’s hours to help support the queue management arrangements that were put in place by central Government. The Delivery Team worked alongside colleagues from Lambeth Council, Southwark Council, and the Metropolitan Police to ensure that people queuing were safe and had as positive an experience as possible while on South Bank.

Members of the BID delivery team, South Bank Patrol and South Bank Clean Team were continually on the ground and in regular contact with DCMS, Lambeth and Southwark Councils to ensure that issues relating to safety, litter and waste were promptly addressed. The teams also worked closely with all businesses along the route, especially Southbank Centre, National Theatre and BFI Southbank who remained open for 24 hours throughout the whole period, provided food and refreshments – and warmth – for those queuing.

This work and commitment were vital in ensuring that the management of the queue was as smooth as possible and that the experience of those visiting South Bank was positive, particularly given the high level of media focus from across the World. South Bank BID’s CEO appeared on several London wide media channels, including BBC Radio London and London Live, to highlight the great work being done by many members of the South Bank’s business community, and the teams that are supported and funded by the BID.
